Cal/OSHA’s updated fall protection standards for residential framing and roofing take effect July 2025, requiring protection for work 6 feet or higher.
Acceptable measures include scaffolds, guardrails, safety nets, and personal fall arrest systems. If conventional methods aren’t feasible, employers must develop a site-specific fall protection plan created by a qualified person and supervised by a competent person.
Controlled access zones may be used when traditional protection isn’t possible, with safety monitors overseeing workers. These updates are part of Phase 1, with potential future alignment with federal OSHA standards.
