A Message from SDRCA President Gary Gilmore

Greetings Roofing Industry Professionals,

To all that attended the SDRCA dinner meeting May 18th – I want to say, thank you. A special thank you to Reid Ribble for all you have done for the Roofing Industry and for cutting out time for us here in San Diego. We wish you the best as you transition into retirement.

Reid left us with a view of what is ahead and steps to take to avoid possible negative outcomes. The NRCA has embarked on a three-prong strategy.

For those who were unable to make it to the meeting….. What is coming is the lack of qualified installers, foreman, superintendents, and estimators. This has been an issue for many years, but we keep moving closer toward the cliff. A few are proactive in training – while others wait for the trained to walk through the door. How’s that working for you?

NRCA’s Strategy

  • Put a Qualified Trainer in every roofing company.
  • Provide curriculum via the NRCA TRAC (Training for Roof Application Careers) program.
  • Professionally certify workers through NRCA ProCertification.

The SDRCA has an education committee, and I believe it would be wise to have a meeting to discuss options moving forward for the San Diego roofing community. The committee is open to member participation – so please let me know if you would like to be involved.

In closing, to all of those that participated in the SDRCA fundraiser for Chuck Gallinat – thank you for your generosity.

Gary Gilmore
